Stripping back to basics this Spring

Its here, at last! Gone are the long dark days of winter, our hibernation period is finally over. Although losing that precious hour in bed wasn't my favourite, Ive never been more ready to see the flowers bloom and feel the sun on my skin. Welcome Spring!

With a new season comes a new environment for our skin to face. More need for SPF, and a dial down on the rich moisturising elements of ones winter skincare routine.

Skincare has gained more interest in these last few years, and with that more and more pressure to apply so many buzz word ingredients in varying percentages. From the research I've found through several world class dermatologists, (Skincare guru Dr. Sam Bunting, Georgia Louise - Celebrity aesthetician, Dermatologist Dr Whitney Bowe, Dior skincare specialist Sean Garrette )

the best approach when customising your skincare routine is to bring it back to basics.

Think - gentle cleansers and don't think - throwing every active ingredient on your face. More importantly its listening to your skin. If your skin ever tingles after you've applied a product, its probably too much for your skin to handle.

Focusing on repairing and protecting the skin barrier, and keeping your routine minimal seems to be the way forward.

Of course everyones skin is different, so Im only sharing what Ive found works for me and my dull, dry skin!

The new products in my routine consist of; eye cream, moisturiser, SPF and a nightly retinol treatment.

Occasionally I'll add an extra product if I feel I need to exfoliate, or need something more powerful to remove my waterproof mascara - I've found an excellent one recently!!

So, heres my list of affordable, wonderful skincare!!

Eye cream

ZEESOON Beauty of Joseon Revive eye serum : Ginseng + Retinal (30ml, 1 fl.oz. - A £14.99 moisturising, nourishing eye cream thats packed with glycerin, niacinamide and vitamin A. I've noticed a difference after just two weeks, my fine lines are less obvious and the darker pigmentation under my eyes is lifting! Reversing the damage left after year one of parenthood/sleep deprivation.

Moisturiser

This will vary the most depending on your skin type, so although my dry skin is appreciating this [Pyunkang Yul] Intensive Repair Cream 50ml, I've got a good one for oily and combination skin too!

SPF

Another super affordable and back to basics SPF that will keep skin well protected ALTRUIST. Dermatologist Sunscreen SPF 50. The whole ethos behind this brand is reducing incidents of skin cancer, and part of the proceeds go towards their chairty to help reduce albinism.

Retinol

I use this COSRX The Retinol 0.1 Cream after cleansing my skin in the evening to help improve skin texture. Retinol really is that skincare ingredient thats proven to do it all. If you want to learn more about how retinol works click here. Also if you're not used to using a retinol its recommended you introduce in small doses to start with as it can cause irritation. Retinol isnt suitable for pregnant women.

As well all know, I'm not a skincare expert. Im a qualified beautician, working makeup artist and beauty enthusiast. These are just my recent finds that I wanted to share. Life can be very expensive, (especially this year!) and a good skincare routine doesn't need to break the bank. Its about a little bit of research, and consistency!
