Support Black Owned Businesses

I've found a new beauty brand worth raving about!

It's fair to say that the beauty industry haven't always demonstrated equality and inclusivity. There have been limited options when it comes to hair care and hair styling products for all textures, as well as limited shades for all skin tones. I hate to admit it, but I once worked for a cosmetics brand that only stocked two shades of foundation. Two! This abysmal truth is slowly but surely becoming a thing of the past, with many more indie beauty brands making their way into the market, as well as the top dogs taking more responsibility for being conscious - from an ethical and sustainable perspective as well as inclusive. There is still a way to go, but we are getting somewhere at last.

It takes a whole load of courage, effort and time to break into the beauty industry and that's why I want to celebrate brands that I believe in. Without demand, they could struggle to keep providing us with quality products and it is our power as consumers and makeup lovers to vote for who deserves to stay in the game.

The past year has been a huge learning curve for all of us, from appreciating our health more to having a movement as big as the 'blacklivesmatter' highlighting just how much work needs to be done in order to live in a (long overdue) equal world. As we begin to awaken to the importance of making conscious decisions and educating ourselves as much as possible - we should also be supporting black-owned beauty businesses.

I set out to find a vegan and cruelty-free black-owned UK beauty business with an affordable price range and quality payoff. It took some time to research, trial and test several products. Eventually, I stumbled upon a new brand named 'September Rose Cosmetics'.

September Rose is a black-owned London-based beauty brand with fabulous bright eye shadow palettes, glosses, and tools for ALL the makeup obsessed. The Tanzanian founder was once told she was 'too dark' to wear colour, and turned that false claim into sheer passion and drive to bring us some sensational goodies. Their tag line is:

'At September Rose Cosmetics we want you to be BOLD!

We want you to be unapologetically YOU!

Last but not least, we want you to always LIVE IN COLOUR!'

I love everything they stand for and can also vouch for the colour payoff. The eye shadow shades are so cool, and the pigments pop immediately. For ideas on makeup looks for 2021 click here.

So next time you're looking for a new inspiring spectrum of shades, give this brand a go. I have been using (and loving) the SLUSH palette! Priced at £24 it's worth every penny.
